Biotest has always prioritized high-quality development and innovation as the core principles guiding our growth. Through extensive research and rigorous experimentation, we have successfully developed a new type of diagnostic reagent-G6PD Rapid Test Cassette.
What Is G6PD
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is a critical enzyme found in red blood cells, playing a key role in the pentose phosphate pathway. It protects red blood cells from oxidative damage. When mutations in the G6PD gene lead to reduced enzyme activity, individuals develop G6PD deficiency, commonly known as "favism," a hereditary hemolytic disorder.
G6PD Deficiency's Health Risks And Impacts:
- Acute Hemolytic Risk:Exposure to oxidative stressors (e.g., fava beans, certain drugs, or chemicals) can induce hemolysis in G6PD-deficient individuals, leading to acute anemia. Severe cases may be fatal.
- Neonatal Risks:Affected newborns are at risk of severe hyperbilirubinemia, which, if untreated, can progress to kernicterus and permanent neurological impairment.
- Medication Precautions:Many common drugs (e.g., antimalarials, sulfonamides, and some analgesics) are contraindicated due to their hemolytic potential. Strict avoidance is essential in managing comorbid conditions.
The Importance Of Timely Testing:
1.Early Screening,Early Prevention
- Neonatal Screening: Detecting G6PD deficiency early after birth helps avoid exposure to risk factors, reducing the likelihood of jaundice and hemolysis.
- Family Genetic Alert: Individuals with a family history can undergo genetic testing to clarify carrier status, aiding in informed reproductive decisions.
- It is recommended that malaria positive patients and HIV positive patients undergo qualitative screening for G6PD deficiency before starting drug therapy.
2.Precise Medication,Safe Treatment
- Precision Medicine for Safe Treatment: In conditions like COVID-19, medications such as chloroquine phosphate must be strictly avoided in G6PD-deficient patients to prevent drug-induced hemolytic crises.
Outstanding G6PD Rapid Test Cassette
The G6PD Test Cassette (Whole blood) is used for qualitative detection of normal or deficient G6PD enzyme activity in whole blood samples. It is intended for in vitro clinical auxiliary diagnosis of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
