Summary

Syphilis is a systemic illness caused by the bacterium *Treponema pallidum* (TP). The clinical presentation of syphilis varies according to its stage, which includes primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary phases. TP is a spirochete bacterium characterized by an outer envelope and a cytoplasmic membrane. Research has demonstrated a significant epidemiological link between the acquisition and transmission of the HIV virus and syphilis. Syphilis is marked by multiple clinical stages and extended periods of latent, asymptomatic infection. Primary syphilis is identified by the presence of a chancre at the site of inoculation. Antibodies against the TP bacterium can be detected within 4 to 7 days after the chancre appears, and the infection remains detectable until the patient receives appropriate treatment. The Syphilis Rapid Test Strip (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) employs a dual antigen method, utilizing Syphilis antigen-coated particles and Syphilis antigen fixed on a membrane, to qualitatively and selectively detect TP antibodies (IgG and IgM) in whole blood, serum, or plasma.

Convenient Procedure

1. Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test strip from the sealed pouch and use it within one hour.

2. Place the strip on a clean and level surface.

For Serum or Plasma specimen: Hold the dropper vertically and transfer 2 drops of serum or plasma (approximately 50mL) to the specimen area, then add 1 drop of buffer (approximately 40 mL),and start the timer, see illustration below.

For Venipuncture Whole Bloodspecimen: Hold the dropper vertically and transfer 2 drops of whole blood (approximately 50mL) to the specimen area, then add 1 drop of buffer (approximately 40 mL), and start the timer. See illustration below.

3. Wait for the colored line(s) to appear. Read results at 10 minutes.

Do not interpret the result after 20 minutes.
