Many diseases can cause hidden blood in the feces. This is also known as Fecal Occult Blood (FOB), Human Occult Blood, or Human Hemoglobin. In the early stages, gastrointestinal problems such as colon cancer, ulcers, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, and fissures may not show any visible symptoms, only occult blood. Traditional guaiac-based methods lack sensitivity and specificity, and also have diet restrictions prior to testing.

The FOB Rapid Test Strip (Feces) is a rapid test to qualitatively detect low levels of Fecal Occult Blood. The test uses a double antibody sandwich assay to selectively detect Fecal Occult Blood at 50ng/ml or higher, or 6μg/g feces. In addition, unlike guaiac assays, the accuracy of the test is not affected by the diet of the patients.

Collecting Fecal Samples:Place feces in a clean, dry container suitable for collecting samples. For the best outcomes, perform the assay within 6 hours of collection. If testing is delayed, the collected sample can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 3 days.

Processing Fecal Samples:Unscrew the cap from the collection tube. Insert the applicator into the fecal sample at least three times in different areas without scooping. Reattach the cap tightly and shake the tube vigorously to mix the sample with the extraction buffer. If not tested within an hour after preparation, the processed sample can be stored at -20°C for up to 6 months.

Preparing the Test Strip:Let the foil pouch warm up to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test strip and use it within one hour to ensure optimal results, preferably conducting the test right after opening the pouch.

Transferring and Testing the Specimen:Secure the reaction tube and hold the collection tube upright while removing its tip. Turn the tube upside down and transfer 8-10 full drops (about 500 μL) of the extracted sample into the reaction tube. Immerse the strip with arrows facing the buffer and start the timer, ensuring the strip does not go past the maximum line. Consult the illustration for proper technique.

Reading the Results:Interpret the results at exactly 5 minutes. Do not read the results after 10 minutes.
